In Minecraft, you will spawn into worlds with unique weather, animals, and plants. These regions are known as biomes. Let's explore the Ice Plains biome in Minecraft.

Background

In Minecraft, the Ice Plains is a biome in the Overworld. It is basically a snowy version of the Plains biome. It is relatively flat land with a layer of snow covering the grass. It has lots of streams, lakes, caves, and some wildlife such as polar bears and rabbits.

Let's explore the characteristics of the Ice Plains biome.

Weather

The weather in the Ice Plains biome has average precipitation.

Trees

In the Ice Plains biome, you will find spruce trees:

Vegetation

The vegetation found in the Plains biome is dandelions and poppies:

 

Blocks

In this biome, you will find blocks such as grass blocks, sand, ice, and lapis lazuli ore:

   

If you dig down far enough in the Ice Plains biome, you will find the standard Minecraft building blocks such as stone, coal ore, iron ore, gold ore, diamond ore, redstone ore:

     

Mobs

In the Plains biome, there is some wildlife. You will find polar bears and rabbits.

 

You will still find the usual Overworld mobs that spawn at night in the Plains biome, such as creepers, endermen, skeletons, spiders, witches and zombies:

     

Villages

If you look carefully in the Ice Plains biome, you will sometimes find a village like the one below:

Inside this village, you will find a group of small buildings where villagers naturally spawn. You can trade with these villagers to get rare items. Because this type of village is in a snow biome, you generally will not find any gardens to harvest if the entire village is covered in snow.

Igloos

If you look carefully in the Ice Plains biome, you will sometimes find a rare igloo like the one below:

An igloo is a house made out of blocks of snow. Inside the igloo, you will find a bed, a crafting table, a furnace and a redstone torch.
